Date Sold 11/15/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Color Photo Page (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]) (Learn More) Emmett Kelly, Jr. was the son of the legendary clown, did not follow his father's footsteps at first. He grew up estranged from his father, and worked as a mechanic in the railroad, and was in World War II. In 1960, four years after his father retired, Kelly Jr. began an act that was the same as his father's, as "Weary Willie". His father did not approve of his son taking his act, and that made them even more estranged! He had great success, including performing at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, and at the White House, living for a long time in Tombstone, Arizona, but he was a strange man, and had a troubled private life. His son tried to become the "third Weary Willie", but that did not work out and he ended up in jail for murder. But Kelly Jr. had nearly as successful a career as his father, and no doubt many people confuse the achievements of one for the achievements of the other! He passed away in 2006 at the age of 82. Important Added Info: Note that this REPRODUCTION still has been personally autographed (signed) by Emmett Kelly! Our consignor is a man named Larry who apparently met with Emmett Kelly in the 1990s and had this photo taken with him (it was made on a color copier) which Kelly autographed, and Larry added his signature under his image with "Ol Miner" above it! Both we and our consignor feel it is certain that the autograph on this item is authentic, but he does not have a certificate of authenticity. Condition: good to very good. There is a vertical scuff mark in the center of "Larry's" face. Learn More about condition grades
