The Iron Horse, the 1924 John Ford silent transcontinental railroad train Native American Indian historical adventure romantic epic ("Blazing the trail of love and civilization"; "A Romance of the East and West"; "Three Years in the Making"; "By Charles Kenyon and John Russell"; about the first efforts to create a transcontinental railroad, with savage Indians who ambush the train builders, and many subplots; the movie includes elements of the real first transcontinental railroad) starring George O'Brien, Madge Bellamy, Charles Edward Bull (as Abraham Lincoln), Cyril Chadwick, Will Walling, George Waggner (as Buffalo Bill), Chief John Big Tree, J. Farrell MacDonald, and Jack Padjan (as Wild Bill Hickok). Note that major silent movies at this time were given exclusive showings in either just New York City, or in just a few major cities, where they would charge much higher ticket prices (and people could either pay those higher prices or wait a year or more for the movie to make it to regular theaters). This is one of those movies, and most existing first release posters from it say "Direct from one year's run in New York" on them. We don't know if there were any regular posters created for that initial New York run, and it seems likely that whatever was created would have been "one of a kind", because they would only have been used at that one theater.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tears and small areas of paper loss on parts of many foldlines, with some small tears and small areas of paper loss in some non-foldline areas. It had smudges in the white letters of the title and a diagonal tear running from the lower right of the "N" of "IRON" through the "E" of "EAST" in the tagline below. It had tears and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really nicely backed by a talented restorer. It will display fantastically from any reasonable viewing distance, but from close up, you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
