An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 64 pages) (Learn More)

Republic Pictures, the 1935 campaign book sent to theater owners to encourage them to show Republic movies. This is the first campaign book that was printed by the newly created Republic Pictures in 1935 (Republic was formed by merging six small studios that were barely hanging on, Monogram, Mascot, Liberty, Majestic, Chesterfield, and Invincible). The book has 64 pages with two-color one and two page ads for upcoming movies. The highlights of the book are the two-page ad for "John Wayne in a greater western series", where they announced all eight pictures that would be made (because they had bought the rights to all eight stories), and also the two-page ad for the four upcoming Republic serials, the first of which was Robinson Crusoe (at the time this book went to press, they did not know what the other three serials would be, but they had pictures of authors that they were going to make serials from, including Ellery Queen and James Fenimore Cooper). Apparently, Republic did not print many of these campaign books, either in this first year or in the next few years, because any Republic campaign books from the 1930s are beyond rare!

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this campaign book, and it sold for $805!

Condition: good. There is staining on the covers. There is a gouge in the upper part of the spine closer to the back cover, and it caused tiny paper loss at the spine in the final 10 pages of the book, but that tiny paper loss does not really have much effect at all on those pages. Other than the above, the book is in pretty nice condition (see our many images)!
