An Original Vintage Theatrical Kraftbacked Tri-Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 38 3/4" x 77 1/2" [98 x 197 cm]) (Learn More) Rube Miller was born Henry Miller Jr. in 1886. His father was an actor, and his uncle was a producer. Although Rube was at one time a circus clown (where he likely obtained his nickname), he became an actor and director in 1913, directing himself in many comedy shorts. He worked at Mutual at the same time Charlie Chaplin got his start there, and he made many movies through the 1910s. He started making solely feature films in 1919, and made eight of them through 1923. But he had major drug issues, which caused him to leave the film business and move to Mexico. Because of his drug problems, his father left him nothing in his will when he passed away in 1926, and Rube took that very hard, and passed away the next year from a drug overdose. He was only 40, and only two Americans attended his funeral in Mexico, where he is buried. He is completely forgotten today except by major film buffs, but in his day, he was an important comedy star. Perhaps someone will make a film biography of his life (Johnny Depp could play the lead role). If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this three-sheet measures 38 3/4" x 77 1/2" [98 x 197 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Also note that this three-sheet was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Also note that this poster has been kraftbacked, which means it was backed onto a brown paper soon after it was printed (this process is called "kraft-backing", and posters with it are called "kraft-backed"). The poster had its top corners folded back and glued, and metal grommets were inserted into each corner (see our image). One could have it professionally removed from the kraft paper and linenbacked, and it would look great! Finally, note this three-sheet poster was tri-folded only (which means there is one less vertical machine fold than usual). This means the poster has a significantly lesser number of folds than with three-sheets folded in the "regular" way, which is nice! Tri-folded three-sheets need to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 13" x 30", so they cost more to send than regularly folded three-sheets, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses. Condition: very good. The poster was kraftbacked (see above). It has small paper loss at the crossfolds and pretty minor wear on the folds and in the borders. The poster has metal grommets inserted in the corners. From our image, it looks like the top corners were clipped off diagonally, but actually they were folded back and glued, and any restorer could reverse that process. After removal from the kraftbacking and proper linenbacking, the poster will look incredible! Learn More about condition grades
