Date Sold 1/27/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Japanese Film Program (measures 6 1/4" x 9" [16 x 23 cm]; 7 pages) (Learn More) Osaka Natsu No Jin (released in English-speaking countries as "The Fall of the Toyotomi"), the 1937 Teinosuke Kinogasa Japanese Edo period Shogun military battle melodrama starring Kazuo Hasegawa (billed as "Chojiro Hayashi"), Hideo Fujino, Kenji Susukida, Kokichi Takada, Ryunosuke Tsukigata, and Kotaro Bando Artist: Kun Important Added Info: Any Japanese movie paper from before World War II is incredibly rare. This program is a real oddity. It is for a 1937 Japanese movie, but it is entirely in English. It mentions the "Imperial Theatre" on the cover, and it has an ad on the last interior page for "Dimples" (the Shirley Temple movie), and an ad on the inside back cover for "The Garden of Allah" (the Marlene Dietrich movie). It would seem that this was a Japanese theater that showed both U.S. movies and Japanese movies, but certainly the Japanese movies would have been subtitled into English, and the theater must have specialized in English speaking customers. Included with the program are two ticket stubs from the "Kabukiza Theatre" in Tokyo. We don't know if this is the same theater as the "Imperial Theatre" mentioned on the cover, or if it is from a different theater. The program itself has its pages tied with a ribbon at the spine and great color cover art by Kun. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this is a "country of origin" item for this Japanese movie! Also note that we have provided an image of the front cover, the back cover, and an interior two-page spread of this 7-page program. You can use these images to determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized images, but realize that there are pages you are not seeing. Condition: very good.
