An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Why Sailors Go Wrong, the 1928 Henry Lehrman silent New York Jewish/Irish Navy sailor tropical island romantic slapstick comedy ("High sea roamers in romantic hot water"; about a pair of New York cab drivers, one Jewish and one Irish, who stow away on a ship and find themselves in Pago Pago with hostile natives, and they have adventures with wild animals and are almost eaten by the natives before they are rescued by American sailors) starring Sammy Cohen, Ted McNamara, Sally Phipps, Nick Stuart, and E.H. Calvert. Note that this was the sort of "ethnic" comedy that was popular in vaudeville at this time, but there are not many movies with it. Star Sammy Cohen had a large nose, and there are many references to it in the movie, along with jokes about his "cheapness". When the movie was released in Germany that year, it was re-titled to "Emil und Schlemihl". One wonders how this movie was received in Germany, which already had major anti-Semitism. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Lance Cattermole Important Added Info: Note that first release 1928 movie posters from this movie are incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single poster from this movie until we received this insert! Also note that this poster has never been folded! Some pre-1970 insert posters were folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 insert posters (note that most post-1970 inserts were NOT folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those inserts). Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. There are a few faint creases scattered in the poster and a tiny tear in the right of the bottom border. There is a 1 1/2" tear in the upper left border and some tiny tears in the top blank border. There are a few faint smudges around the edges. Other than the above, the poster is in really nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
