An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Danish Movie Poster (measures approximately 24" x 33") (Learn More) Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, the 1951 Albert Lewin English romantic fantasy melodrama ("The Loves of Pandora in Flaming Technicolor!"; "Forbidden Love: 'I knew the man of my dreams was on the yacht in the bay. Some powerful force drew me to him.'"; "Over The Cliff: 'Prove your love for me. Send your car over the cliff and I will marry you.' And Pandora's wish was granted. Men would do anything for her."; "Jealous Revenge: 'I'd do anything for the love of Pandora.' Hot-blooded gypsy jealousy leads to tragedy."; "The woman of the year in the picture of the year!"; about a woman that falls in love with a sailor from the 17th century who is doomed to roam the seas until doomsday unless a woman is ready to die for him) starring James Mason (in the title role as the Flying Dutchman, Hendrick van der Zee), Ava Gardner (in the title role as Pandora Reynolds), Nigel Patrick, Sheila Sim, Harold Warrender, Mario Cabre ("Spectacular Thrills: Mario Cabre, world famous bullfighter, in one of the most thrilling and death-defying sequences ever filmed."), and Marius Goring NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: K. Wenzel Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are slightly noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had eight circular punch holes in the left and right of the top foldline. Very fortunately, five is these punch holes are in the background area, two are in the top sail of the ship at top left, and one touches the edge of the first "A" of "AVA" at top right. The poster has a censor stamp in the top right corner. Otherwise, it had very minor wear on the foldlines and in the borders. Overall, the poster was in pretty nice condition, other than the punch holes described above, prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed. The restorer filled in the punch holes, but did not make a great effort to match the missing area, so they are slightly noticeable, but are not at all distracting. The restorer also chose to leave alone the censor stamp in the top left corner. Learn More about condition grades
