A 1968 Re-Release Theatrical Tri-Folded Japanese Two-Panel "STB" or "Tatekan" Movie Poster (2p; measures 20" x 57" [51 x 145 cm]) (Learn More) Tengoku to Jigoku (released in the U.S. in 1964 as "Akira Kurosawa's High and Low", and released in other English-speaking countries as "Ransom"), the classic 1963 Akira Kurosawa Japanese kidnapping crime thriller ("Adapted from Ed McBain's 'King's Ransom'"; based on a great story by the U.S. writer Ed McBain, who had many pen names including Evan Hunter; ranks alongside "M" as one of the very finest movies of this kind ever made!) starring Toshiro Mifune, Kyoko Kagawa, Tatsuya Nakadai, Tsutomu Yamazaki, Susumu Fujita, Kenjiro Ishiyama, Takeshi Kato, and Takashi Shimura (Shimura often worked with Kurosawa, similar to the relationship Ward Bond had with John Ford) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that our consignor tells us that most of the posters for this film (from Japan or any other country) depict only the "high" society surrounding the president played by Toshiro Mifune, but Japanese 1968 re-release posters depict "high" society people in the upper part and "low" society people in the lower part, which is a central message of this film. In addition, in this 1968 Tatekan poster, we can see the kidnapper (played by Tsutomu Yamazaki) standing in the lower right edge with the reflective glasses on. This poster is the only poster (first release, reissue, B2, Tatekan, and maybe any poster from any country) which shows the figure of the kidnapper who is in the "low" society. Also, note that this Japanese two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Finally, note that this poster was tri-folded only (which means there is no vertical machine fold) but because it would be more expensive to send flat, it will be sent rolled in a tube.
UPDATED 11/14/2019: Note that we have updated the Important Added Info section. Condition: good to very good. The poster has light creases and some small tears of varying lengths and pinholes along portions of the edges, and some of them have been very carefully repaired with tiny pieces of tape on the back and some of them are touched up with marker. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
