A Linenbacked Special Poster (measures 13" x 19 1/2" [33 x 50 cm]) (Learn More) A Century of Progress International Exposition (also known as the Chicago World's Fair) was a World's Fair held in the U.S. city of Chicago, Illinois from 1933 to 1934. Originally, it was only supposed to run in 1933, but it was so successful that it was "held over" for another year. The theme of the fair was technological innovation, and its motto was "Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Adapts", giving out a message that science and American life were wedded. This World's Fair is probably best remembered today for the fact that the famous fan dancer Sally Rand appeared there, and that the "Graf Zeppelin" came there from Germany. The first Major League Baseball All-Star game was held in conjunction with the fair. General Motors had a giant exhibition there, as did the other car companies. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster! Also note that this poster was originally printed in 1933.
