An Undated (probably 1950s) Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 46 3/4" x 48 1/4" [119 x 123 cm]) (Learn More)

This is a circa 1940s French stock poster for Laurel & Hardy movies! The poster features a great artwork image by Roger Cartier of the comedy duo, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. French theaters would display this poster when they would show Laurel & Hardy movies (likely writing in the title of the specific movie being shown at the bottom of the poster, or gluing a snipe there). We have never seen this poster before, nor have we seen this image. If anyone knows when the poster was made, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Artist: Roger Cartier
Important Added Info: Note that it seems likely that one theater used this poster and wrote in a title and play dates in the bottom area, and then a second theater wanted to reuse the poster, so they trimmed off that bottom area, and then hand wrote the movie they were showing at that time in the top background area and in the bottom border. Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 46 3/4" x 48 1/4" [119 x 123 cm].

Condition: fair. The bottom of the poster was trimmed, but that was likely just blank area but may have contained the film title. Information about movies being shown was written in the top and bottom, but that is mostly in blank areas. Certainly, a talented restorer could remove the writing and linenback the poster without recreating the bottom blank area, and it would look fantastic, but please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored!
