Note that this movie is always referred to as a "1937" movie, but it actually only had a limited opening in December 1937 (no doubt to qualify for the Oscars), and then it had its wide opening in February 1938. But because it is always referred to as being from 1937, we refer to it that way as well (and of course, it is technically correct). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Gustaf Tenggren Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one other example of this first release style A half-sheet from this movie, and that was 30 years ago, when it sold for $3,335 (and we also only auctioned two examples of the first release style B half-sheet, 24 and 28 years ago)! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded, but there are some faint partial vertical creases in the left and right of the poster, where it was slightly roughly handled while it was rolled. It had a small tear near the middle of the right border that has a piece of tape on the back and there was an ancient piece of yellowed tape on the front of the bottom right of the poster, covering a tear, and someone put tape on the back of that area. There is also tape on the back of the left 6" of the top blank border, where there are small creases on the front and the person put the tape on the back to protect that area. The poster has some creases and smudges in the rest of the borders and a very few creases and smudges scattered throughout. This first release poster was used for a re-release and someone stamped the re-release NSS on the back of the upper left blank border, and the poster came in contact with another poster stamped the same way, so there is partial red ink transfer in the upper left blank border from the contact with the other poster. To me, these defects seem very minor, and I would think that the vast majority of collectors would be happy to display this incredibly rare poster as it is, but of course, restoration can be performed, and that will be the choice of the new owner.
