An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Joe Louis was a legendary black African American boxer from the 1930s to the 1950s. He was the world heavyweight boxing champion from 1937 to 1950, winning 26 championship fights during that time. He enlisted in the army at the start of 1942, and served all the way until 1945! He passed away in 1981 at the age of 66. Important Added Info: Note that Joe Louis first fought Jersey Joe Walcott (who was the same age as Louis) in 1947, and Walcott knocked him down twice, and most people think Walcott clearly won the fight, but it was awarded to Louis. This still is from their rematch in Yankee Stadium the following year, and Walcott knocked him down in the third round, but Louis knocked out Walcott in the eleventh to retain his title again at age 34. Amazingly, Walcott became the heavyweight champ two years later, at age 36! Condition: good to very good. Learn More about condition grades
