(literally translates to "This is the Only Way you can Vote!"), the 1928 German political poster encouraging voters of Hamburg, Germany to vote for the Social Democratic Party of Germany. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands or SPD) is a social-democratic political party in Germany which was founded in 1863. In the years after World War I, this party was part of a coalition government in 1918 to 1921, 1923, and 1928 to 1930 (and this poster is from the 1928 elections, in which the SPD won enough votes to be part of the government). One of the candidates in this election was Johanna Reitze, who was a German politician and women's rights activist. She sat as a member of the national parliament between 1920 and 1932. In 1933, Adolf Hitler and the Nazis pushed forward the "Enabling Act", which gave Hitler dictatorial powers, and only the SPD voted against it, and once it was passed, Hitler abolished the SPD, and the members were imprisoned, killed, or went into exile. In 1945, the party was reformed. It remains an important political party in Germany, and today it is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Germany, along with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). The poster was folded and had very minor wear on the folds. It had a 5" tear near the center of the left border and a 1" tear in the upper left border, with some other small tears in the borders and tiny pinholes in the corners. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was mounted onto a very thin linen with no excess and there is only slight restoration of the above border defects. Learn More about condition grades
