An Original Vintage Folded World War II Poster (measures 11" x 28" [28 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Which Do You Want?, the 1940s U.S. World War II (WWII) War Bonds poster ("Slave labor. Free labor. Decide with war bonds") created by Seagram to encourage people to purchase war bonds, and featuring Lejaren A. Hiller photos of a man being forced to work by a Japanese soldier, and a smiling man voluntarily working. This poster certainly seems not only "heavy handed" to today's world, but outright "over the top", but of course America during World War II knew that the Nazis and the Japanese could potentially conquer the entire world and they wanted to make sure every citizen did all they could to keep that from happening, and posters like this certainly drove that message home! It is very interesting that an alcohol manufacturer of liquor was promoting buying war bonds. Perhaps this had to do with the fact that the government at this time was wanting to add a special "war tax" on alcohol, and Seagram's was hoping that enough people would buy bonds that the government wouldn't need to do this (and we have seen posters from the Calvert Distillers Corp. warning people about a tax on alcohol).
Artist: Lejaren A. Hiller
