eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 2v189 JOHNSTOWN FLOOD glass slide '26 art of George O'Brien saving pretty Florence Gilbert! Date Sold 4/25/2010Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Style A Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) The Johnstown Flood, the 1926 Irving Cummings silent historical epic melodrama ("A thrilling epic drama"; very loosely based on the real Johnstown flood of 1889, with a romantic subplot grafted on) starring George O'Brien, Florence Gilbert, Janet Gaynor, Anders Randolf, Paul Nicholson, and Clark Gable (in one of his 14 uncredited roles prior to making his real debut in 1931's "The Painted Desert"). Note that this was Janet Gaynor's first real movie part, after a bunch of unbilled performances. She plays a young girl who tries to warn the villagers of the impending flood on horseback (a la Paul Revere), but she is drowned before she can do so! Of course, the following year, she appeared in 7th Heaven and Sunrise, which made her a major star. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: very good to fine. The glass slide itself is in nice condition and the cardboard holder has some minor smudges (as can be seen in our super-sized images). Learn More about condition grades
