An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Down to Earth, the 1947 Alexander Hall New York City Broadway romantic fantasy musical ("She Sings! She Dances! She Loves!"; "She's out of this world... In Technicolor!"; "They say she kissed 2000 men!"; "Songs by Allan Roberts and Doris Fisher"; "Magic enchantment that takes you out of this world..."; about the real life goddess Terpsichore coming down to Earth after seeing how she is portrayed in a Broadway musical!) starring Rita Hayworth, Larry Parks, Marc Platt, Roland Culver, James Gleason, Edward Everett Horton, Adele Jergens, George Macready, William Frawley, James Burke, and Virginia Hunter. Note that there is an oddity about the posters for this movie. They have a 1946 NSS number, and yet the movie was not released until August of 1947. Perhaps it was intended for a December 1946 release (to qualify for awards), but when the movie was not ready in time, it ended up getting pushed back until the following August. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had some tiny bits of surface paper loss and separation on parts of the folds. It had a slightly diagonal crease running from the lower left of Hayworth's hair down through her shoulder and underarm. It had pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed many years ago, and since that time it was displayed, and it faded considerably. Not only have the reds in "TECHNICOLOR" faded, but also Hayworth's skin color, and that has made the restoration paint on the folds running through her body much more noticeable. If I owned this poster, I would surely have it removed from the old linen and re-backed, and have additional restoration performed. However, please bear in mind its significant condition issues before placing a bid on it. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
