In the late 1930s, she was appearing on stage in London (her first great success was "Street Scene"), and Louis B. Mayer saw her in "Old Music" in London in 1939, and signed her to star in MGM's Goodbye Mr. Chips, where she was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award. Some of her movies include: Mrs. Miniver (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role), Julius Caesar, The Valley Of Decision (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mrs. Parkington (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Susie Parkington), Madame Curie (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Marie Curie), Blossoms In The Dust (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Sunrise At Campobello (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and many more! She passed away in 1996 at the age of 91. Important Added Info: Note that BOTH the index card AND the first day cover have been personally autographed (signed) by Greer Garson! Both could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed separately to make two cool displays! This is one of eleven similar first day covers, all for the 50th anniversary of talking pictures, but each of the eleven were signed by different celebrities. Obviously, a man named Lester Liddle attended an event that all of these twelve celebrities were at, and they asked each one of them to sign an envelope! We are auctioning them in eleven separate auctions. Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signatures to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
