La Grande Epreuve (released in the U.S. in 1929 as "The Soul of France"), the 1928 Andre Duges & Alexandre Ryder French silent World War I (WWI) family relationship melodrama (based on the novel by Georges Le Faure; the title in French translates to "The Big Trial", and the movie is about two brothers who are very different; one becomes an army officer and the other is wanted by the law, so to avoid trial, he enlists in the army as a private; as luck would have it, they meet on the battlefield, and the bad brother rescues his good brother, but the good brother dies, and that causes the bad brother to change his ways, and he goes on a suicide mission, but miraculously survives, and finds love with a Red Cross nurse who helps him get reconciled with his family!) starring Georges Charlia, Michele Verly, Jean Murat, Berthe Jalabert, Maxime Desjardins, and Andre Heuze. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
