An Undated (probably 1918 or 1919) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 4 3/4" x 6 1/4" [12 x 16 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More)

The Birth of Our Nation, the circa 1906 to 1909 silent historical melodrama starring Blanche Sweet, Earle Williams, Ray Harroun, Mother Maurice, James Morrison, Helen Gardner, William E. Shay, Owen Moore, Florence Lawrence, Charles Kent, and Ralph Ince (as Abraham Lincoln). Note that Ralph Ince appeared in a series of movies between 1906 and 1909 where he portrayed Abraham Lincoln. It seems that almost all information about these movies is lost! We have a herald from a movie where the title is given as "The Birth of Our Nation", and we can tell from the date on it that it was almost certainly issued in 1918 or 1919. What seems most likely is that after The Birth of a Nation in 1915 was such a huge success, some enterprising promoter took one of Ince's early films with Lincoln and re-released it in 1918 and 1919 under the incredibly similar title of "The Birth of Our Nation"! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: good. The herald was folded once in each direction and there are faint stains and a few smudges scattered throughout.
