Coast Guard, the 1937 Alan James & William Witney mad scientist science fiction (sci-fi) adventure serial ("Uncle Sam's first line of defense battling the marauders of the deep!"; "A Republic Serial in 12 Lightning Episodes"; "Original story by Morgan Cox, Ronald Davidson"; a wacky story of Coast Guard men who hear of a mad scientist who has discovered a mineral that gives off radioactive gas and destroys everything it touches, except for glass, and they are told he is dead, but they discover he is alive, and by the last chapter of the serial, they have him trapped, and he and his giant servant are drowned) starring Ralph Byrd, Bela Lugosi (as Boroff, the mad scientist), Maxine Doyle, Richard Alexander (as Thorg, the giant servant), Lee Ford, and Roy Barcroft. Note that this was a 12 chapter serial, and it was not released in a feature version in 1937, but five years later, Republic Pictures did release an edited feature version, with the same title, and since America was now in World War II, a prologue was added congratulating America's Coast Guard!
