An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked English Double Crown Movie Poster (dc; measures 19 3/4" x 29 3/4") (Learn More)

Sailors' and Soldiers' Tobacco Fund, the circa 1915 English World War I (WWI) Home Front poster ("It is a significant fact that almost every letter from the front contains a request for 'something to smoke'. Contributions gratefully received by Hon. Sec, Central House, Kingsway, London, W.C.") encouraging citizens to to provide soldiers with something to smoke while on the front lines. Note that this poster features Frank Brangwyn art of a group of English soldiers on a smoke break after the Battle of Ypres (either the First battle in 1914 or the Second battle in 1915). Note that Frank Brangwyn was not an official World War I artist, but he produced over 80 different posters during World War I, and he donated many of them to charitable groups so that they could reproduce them as posters. Also, note that we have seen examples of this poster with and without text at the bottom.
Artist: Frank Brangwyn

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It had pinholes in the corners and some smudges and scuffs around the edges of the poster and in the bottom blank area. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed onto a thin linen backing with no restoration, and no excess linen was left around the edges.
