An Autographed Letter Matted with a REPRODUCTION (entire display measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Stan Laurel (born Arthur Stanley Jefferson) was an actor from the 1910s to the 1950s. He, along with his partner Oliver Hardy, is best remembered as part of the great comedy team "Laurel and Hardy". He had a solo career in the early 1920s, but in 1926, he joined with Hardy (who had been a major star in the mid 1910s), and they made many legendary movies, including Sons of the Desert, Way Out West, Big Business, Helpmates, The Music Box, Tit for Tat, Towed in a Hole, Them Thar Hills, and Liberty. He passed away in 1965 at the age of 74. In 2019, a film biography, "Stan & Ollie", starring John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan, was released, and while it did what most film biographies did, which is to play fast and loose with the truth, it was generally very well received and one can only hope it will cause new generations to seek out this classic duo's wonderful movies (both features and shorts)! Important Added Info: This letter (which was written from Stan Laurel to Hal Roach studios on June 30, 1932, requesting that they pay his wife his salary while he was out of town) has been personally autographed (signed) by Stan Laurel! The pencil notation at lower-left is initialed by Mat D. O'Brien, who was a friend of Hal Roach and an executive at Hal Roach Studios. Our consignor tells us that one of his relatives found this item in their attic, and they don't know when it was acquired, and they don't have a certificate of authenticity, but we feel certain it is authentic. Also, a very long-time Stan Laurel collector contacted us to tell us he feels certain that the Stan Laurel autograph in this auction is authentic. It was nicely matted with a REPRODUCTION still to make a cool display! Condition: very good. The letter was originally folded, and "Mail Chuck MOB" is in pencil in the lower left of the letter (see our image). The letter and the REPRODUCTION are nicely matted and will look great on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
