An Original Vintage Photo in Reverse Painted Glass Frame (measures 6" x 8" [15 x 20 cm]; opening measures 3" x 4 1/2") (Learn More) Robert Taylor (born Spangler Arlington Brugh) was a handsome leading man from the 1930s to the 1960s, who barely seemed to age! He was born in 1911 in Nebraska, and in high school he was a star athlete, a cello player, and a debate champion. He intended to become a musician, but in college he joined a theater group and he was given lead roles. In 1934, he was signed by MGM to a contract, and the next year he had his big break in the first version of "Magnificent Obsession", opposite Irene Dunne. The following year, he starred opposite Greta Garbo in "Camille", and he was a great favorite with female moviegoers. He remained with MGM for 24 years, interrupted by a 4 year stint in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War II. In the 1930s, he raised and bred race horses! From 1939 to 1952, he was married to Barbara Stanwyck, and from 1954 until he passed away he was married to Ursula Theiss. Because he aged really well, he was able to play leading roles until the end of his career, when he switched to TV. Taylor passed away in 1969 at the age of 57. Important Added Info: Note that this photo has a FACSIMILE autograph that is within the printing (it has NOT been personally autographed). Note that this is one of eight "reverse painted glass frames" we are currently auctioning, in eight separate auctions. Each has an image of a different star in it, but those are "picture frame photos" that have little value. The real value is in the frames themselves! These were very popular for a time in the 1930s and 1940s, because they took a tremendous amount of time and effort to create, and they often had great art deco designs painted onto the glass by hand. They are obviously fragile, and not many of them survive, and many of the ones that do survive have condition issues. This is a rare opportunity to acquire any of these eight reverse painted glass frames, and of course, the new owner can substitute an image of their choice for the current image (either a family photo, or a different celebrity). These frames make for very striking displays on the wall! Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
