A 1954 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More)

Tarzan Finds a Son!, the 1939 Richard Thorpe Africa jungle action adventure fantasy thriller ("ALL NEW! The First Tarzan Picture in 3 Years!"; "Based upon the characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs") starring Johnny Weissmuller (in the title role as Tarzan), Maureen O'Sullivan (as Jane), Johnny Sheffield (billed as "John Sheffield"; as "Boy"), Ian Hunter, Henry Stephenson, Frieda Inescort, Henry Wilcoxon, Laraine Day, Morton Lowry, Gavin Muir, and Cheetah (the chimpanzee). Note that in the books, Tarzan and Jane were married, and there was nothing wrong with them having a son. But in the movies, the producers feared that their son would be considered "illegitimate", so they had him "found" in the jungle (and he was referred to as "Tarzan Jr." in some of the early advertising, but that was dropped, perhaps because it made it obvious he was really Weissmuller's son!). Also, the movie originally ended with Jane dying, because Maureen O'Sullivan didn't want to make anymore Tarzan movies. But fans protested mightily, and the ending was quickly changed so that she survived, and Maureen O'Sullivan was convinced to appear in two more Tarzan movies!

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked.

Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. UPDATED 05/06/2012: Note that this poster is from a 1954 re-release and NOT a first release as we initially listed.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had paper loss at the top crossfold and some scuffs, tiny tears, and tiny bits of paper loss on the top quarter of the vertical foldline and the right half of the top foldline. There are tax stamps in the top right green background. There was some darkening on some foldlines and some tiny surface paper loss. There were some scuffs scattered in the image and a few creases and tiny stains around the edges. The poster was paperbacked onto a thin paper backing with no excess and no restoration.
