An Unfolded Music Concert Poster (measures 24 1/4" x 37" [62 x 94 cm]) (Learn More)

Star Wars Concert, the 1978 music poster ("The Star Wars symphonic suite by John Williams") promoting a series of concerts featuring the Star Wars musical score by John Williams, and conducted by Zubin Mehta. The concerts began in November of 1977. In the Spring of 1978, the people who ran the concerts sold the idea to other people, and the new owners wanted a single poster image for all of the concerts. This poster was commissioned at that time in 1978 by art director Suzy Rice. It features great art of C-3PO and R2-D2 with a variety of musical instruments by John Alvin. However, it was never released to the public and it was not used at the concerts, which makes it one of the most rare Star Wars posters there is!
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Artist: John Alvin
Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the most desirable Star Wars posters there is, even though it came out a year after the movie came out (see above for why). We have only previously auctioned four examples of this poster in all our years of auctioning (the last one we auctioned sold for $9,275, but that one was signed by John Williams, and the one before that was in 2016, and that one sold for $7,777!

Note that this special "all Star Wars" auction began with a phone call from a VERY long time collector of Star Wars posters! He told us that he had reached a point in his life where he was wanting to sell his collection, and he asked if we could do it all at one time. Because he had 174 posters (including many of the most rare and desirable ones), we were happy to comply, but we told him that we would like to also add additional rare Star Wars posters from other collectors, and he agreed, and after we were consigned an additional 117 posters and related items, we have our auction!

We asked the person who assembled the amazing collection of 174 posters in this auction to share with us a written history of how he came to assemble this amazing collection, and if you CLICK HERE, you will be taken to a separate page that shows you what he wrote for us!

Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded and is in excellent condition!
