An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) My Fair Lady, the classic 1964 George Cukor (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) England romantic love triangle rich-educated-man/poor-flower-girl musical ("The most loverly motion picture event of all!......"; "Based upon the play 'My Fair Lady'"; "From the play by Bernard Shaw"; adapted from the hit Broadway play by Lerner and Loewe, which itself was adapted from George Bernard Shaw's non-musical "Pygmalion"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Audrey Hepburn (as Eliza Doolittle), Rex Harrison (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Henry Higgins), Stanley Holloway (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Alfred Doolittle), Wilfrid Hyde-White (as Colonel Pickering), Gladys Cooper (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Jeremy Brett (as Freddy Eynsford-Hill), and Theodore Bikel. Of course, the making of this movie was the center of a major controversy! When Hollywood went to make this movie adaptation of this hit play in 1964 (after it completed its Broadway run, where Julie Andrews had played Eliza Doolittle), they were fine with retaining the lead stars of the stage production EXCEPT for Julie Andrews, because she wasn't a big enough "name"! They replaced her with Audrey Hepburn, which was especially surprising, given that Miss Hepburn could not sing the part, and Marni Nixon was brought in to sing the songs for her (but that was uncredited and carefully kept under wraps, and Miss Nixon was not allowed to admit to it!). This was very unfortunate for Julie Andrews, but in an unusual twist of fate, she made Mary Poppins that year, and, while My Fair Lady swept the top Oscars with the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor awards, Miss Andrews won the Best Actress award over Miss Hepburn (who wasn't even nominated!)! Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable collection of eleven Audrey Hepburn portrait stills which we are auctioning in eleven separate auctions. Note that these stills were consigned to us by the same longtime collector who consigned 24 other remarkable Audrey Hepburn stills to us, which we auctioned on July 22, 2010, and September 23, 2010, and they sold for prices ranging from $855 to $81! The earlier 24 stills we auctioned were mostly portraits of Hepburn from 1953, 1954, and 1961. The current eleven stills contain five portraits from the 1950s, and the other six stills are from My Fair Lady, and many of the stills have wonderful portraits of Audrey Hepburn at the height of her beauty and glamour. This is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or more great portraits of this legendary star! Also note that this still measures 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm], but it does not appear to be trimmed. Condition: very good. The still has slightly darkened on the back of the top of the still, but it has only the slightest effect on the front. Learn More about condition grades
