A Group of 180 Original Vintage Photographic 35mm Slides (measure 2" x 2" [5 x 5 cm]) (Learn More)

Life was the premier heavily illustrated news magazine from 1936 to 1978, and then it was revived several times over the next three decades. It had a circulation in the millions, and covered all areas of news, and many issues had stories about current movies and movie stars.
Important Added Info: Note that these slides of classic movie posters have a wonderful origin and "provenance". Each year, Life Magazine did a special "movie issue", but in May of 1986, they did something REALLY special. One of their art directors was named Lou Valentino, and he was a major movie poster fan and collector, and he convinced the publishers of Life to do a special article in the 1986 movie issue entirely about classic movie posters (he is one of the editors shown in a photo on page 4 of that issue). The published article started on page 75 and ran to page 82, and contained 71 movie poster images of classic posters, including special sections on Saul Bass, King Kong, and Laurel & Hardy, and with lots of wonderful rare posters from all through the years to 1986. Editor Valentino was able to include these posters because he contacted the world's leading collectors of such posters at that time, and he convinced them to let him photograph theirs for the magazine, telling them (correctly) that such exposure would greatly expand the hobby. He also got some images from the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian, and he even included a few posters from his own collection. There are 180 images in this auction, because that is the number that the editor assembled, but only some of the 180 were used in the published article, and they also must have acquired images from another source, because the Saul Bass images and some of the others in the article are NOT included in this group. THIS AUCTION IS FOR SLIDES OF THE 180 IMAGES WE PICTURED, SO PLEASE BID KNOWING THIS! These are the actual slides from which many of the poster images in the May 1986 issue of Life Magazine were reproduced. Included in the auction is an example of that May 1986 issue of Life.

Note: We have 15 images of the 35mm slides in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 15 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 5.
