An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked Indian Movie Poster (measures 30 1/4" x 39 3/4" [77 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars, the 1938 Ford Beebe & Robert F. Hill science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy outer space adventure serial sequel ("See the kingdom of the Clay Men!"; "Your favorite newspaper adventure hero on the screen again!"; "15 startling chapters of further adventures on a new planet!"; "From Alex Raymond's Astonishing Newspaper Strip"; "Original Story and Screen Play by Wyndham Gittens, Norman S. Hall, Ray Trampe, Herbert Dalmas") starring Buster Crabbe (billed as "Larry 'Buster' Crabbe"; in the title role "as 'Flash Gordon'"), Jean Rogers ("as Dale Arden"), Charles Middleton ("as Emperor Ming"), Frank Shannon ("as Dr. Zarkov"), Beatrice Roberts ("as Queen Azura"), Donald Kerr, Richard Alexander ("as Prince Barin"), C. Montague Shaw (billed as "Montague Shaw as 'Clay King'"), and Kane Richmond NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: J. Pinto Important Added Info: Note that, apparently, Indian movie poster printers in the 1960s and 1970s were still using ancient printing presses, because many of their posters from this time look like they could be from the 1930s or 1940s. This is especially problematic when the poster is for a re-release of a much older title. We believe that this poster is surely from an undated re-release (likely 1960s) of this 1938 movie, even though it looks like it could be from the first release. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
UPDATED 06/11/2019: Note that we have updated the Condition information. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny tears and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds. It had tiny paper loss in the middle of the right border, with a tear and small paper loss extending into much of the "S" of "GORDON'S". Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, but at some point after it was backed, it acquired some surface paper loss (under Beatrice Roberts' credit). Note that the restorer left a tiny bit of excess linen around all four sides of the poster (they left a small border in order to protect the poster from handling damage, but they did not leave a larger border, to allow it to more easily fit in a frame).
