Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

Ginsberg the Great, the 1927 Byron Haskin Jewish silent circus sideshow magician comedy ("Based on the story by Anthony Coldeway") starring George Jessel, Audrey Ferris, Gertrude Astor, Theodore Lorch, Stanley J. "Tiny" Stanford (as a circus strongman), and Akka the Chimp. Jessel had played the lead in "The Jazz Singer" on Broadway, but Warner Bros. felt they needed to go with the much bigger star Al Jolson in its first sound movie (and of course, Samson Raphaelson had loosely based "The Jazz Singer" on Jolson's life, so he was more appropriate to play the part, even though Jessel had played it on Broadway). After "The Jazz Singer", Jessel made a few movies for Warner Bros., including this one, but he did not achieve much screen success in those early sound movies.
