Date Sold 8/18/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Evelyn Prentice, the 1934 William K. Howard romantic love triangle mystery crime murder lawyer legal courtroom thriller ("Remember 'The Thin Man'? Well here they are together again."; about the wife of a prominent attorney, and after he cheats on her, she has an affair, but then her lover is killed, and she is blackmailed, and another woman is accused of the crime, and she asks her lawyer husband to defend that woman!) starring William Powell, Myrna Loy (in the title role as Evelyn Prentice), Una Merkel, Rosalind Russell (in her first movie role!), Isabel Jewell, Cora Sue Collins, Harvey Stephens, and Henry Wadsworth. Note that this was the third time that William Powell and Myrna Loy co-starred (after "Manhattan Melodrama" and "The Thin Man"). They would go on to star in 11 more movies together, including of course, the many "Thin Man" sequels! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1934 movie paper from this William Powell/Myrna Loy movie is incredibly rare. The only first release U.S. poster we have ever auctioned from this title was 14 years ago, and that was a different example of this same half-sheet (we have never had any other first release U.S. poster!) until we received this half-sheet! Also note that this poster has never been folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Condition: good. The poster was never machine folded. It was likely roughly handled when it was rolled, because there are now eight evenly spaced vertical creases scattered down the poster (but they are not full creases, and are not folds). There are two areas of paper loss in the bottom blank border and a 2" tear in the left of the bottom border, with a 1" tear and a 1 1/2" tear in the top border. There was a 4" tear near the center of the top border that went into Loy's hair and has tape on the back. Otherwise, the poster has had no restoration. There are some horizontal creases scattered throughout the poster, including some in the stars' faces (see our image). This poster should respond really well to expert restoration. The creases will be greatly minimized after paperbacking or gel-backing, and the poster will display wonderfully! Learn More about condition grades
