Date Sold 9/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage English Campaign Book (measures 6" x 8 1/4" [15 x 21 cm]; 26 pages) (Learn More) United Artists 1947, the 1947 English campaign book sent by United Artists to English theater owners to try to get them to book their upcoming movies. The book measures 6" x 8 1/4", but otherwise resembles a U.S. campaign book of this time, except that the page are all printed on one side only, and it is a glossy paper, which was used in England right after World War II, when there were still major paper shortages there (and this surely also accounts for the small size). The book contains great full-page two-color ads for upcoming United Artists movies including Red River with John Wayne, Monsieur Verdoux with Charlie Chaplin (when it was called "Comedy of Murders"), Dishonored Lady with Hedy Lamarr, Young Widow with Jane Russell, Vendetta with Faith Domergue, and many others. Not only is this book incredibly rare, but so are all English campaign books from any year, but especially from the 1940s and earlier. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, not only have we never auctioned this before, but we have only previously auctioned ONE pre-1940s English campaign book (which was from 1934). They are THAT rare! Condition: very good. There are some tiny holes in the mostly blank cover, with a stain that extends into the United Artists logo. There is writing on the top of the blank cover and writing at the top of the first couple of non-movie-related interior pages. The movie ad pages are in nice condition (see our images).
