An Original Vintage Theatrical Kraftbacked Tri-Folded Style A Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 40 1/4" x 77" [102 x 196 cm]) (Learn More) Barnacle Bill, the 1941 Richard Thorpe waterfront sailor family relationship romantic comedy ("That funny pair is together again! Wally and Margie are a RIOT!"; this was an attempt by MGM to recapture the big successes that Wallace Beery had with Marie Dressler in the early 1930s, but Dressler was no longer alive, so MGM substituted Marjorie Main, another "battleaxe" type, plus they gave Beery a daughter he never knew he had, played by Virginia Weidler) starring Wallace Beery (in the title role as Bill Johansen), Marjorie Main, Leo Carrillo, Virginia Weidler, Donald Meek, and Barton MacLane NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 40 1/4" x 77" [102 x 196 cm]. Also note that this three-sheet was printed in 3 sections designed to overlap. Also note that this poster has been kraftbacked, which means it was backed onto a brown paper soon after it was printed (this process is called "kraft-backing", and posters with it are called "kraft-backed"). One could have it professionally removed from the kraft paper and linenbacked, and it would look great! Also note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Finally, note this three-sheet poster was tri-folded only (which means there is one less vertical machine fold than usual). This means the poster has a significantly lesser number of folds than with three-sheets folded in the "regular" way, which is nice! Tri-folded three-sheets need to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 13" x 30", so they cost more to send than regularly folded three-sheets, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses. Condition: fair to good. A small amount has been trimmed from the edges of the poster. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). There are pencil marks and scratches at lower right. There is tattering and paper loss along the foldlines and around the edges of the poster. There are some pairs of staple holes, creases, and light stains throughout the poster. A restorer can remove the poster from the paper and properly linenback it, after which it will look great!
