An Autographed 4 1/2" x 6" Page from an Album (Learn More) John Boles was a popular actor from the 1920s to the 1950s. Information about his life is somewhat sketchy, and it may not all be true! It is said that he was a spy in World War I! After the war, he appeared in some silent movies and also worked on the stage, where he showed off his excellent singing voice. When sound movies came in, he became a star in some early musicals, and he had a major role in 1931's Frankenstein. He remained a star in the 1930s, and also appeared on the stage. His career went downhill toward the end of the 1930s, and Hollywood dropped him in 1938, and he returned in 1941 to work for lowly Monogram. A few years later, he left show business altogether and went into the oil business in Texas! Some of his other movies include: Seed, Stella Dallas, Back Street, Craig's Wife, The King of Jazz, Only Yesterday, Curly Top, and the Littlest Rebel. He passed away in 1969 at the age of 73. Important Added Info: Note that this album page has been personally autographed (signed) by John Boles, and measures 4 1/2" x 6". Our consignor had intended to frame this album page together with a REPRODUCTION still of Mr. Boles, but he never did that. The winner of this auction will receive both the signed album page and the REPRODUCTION still. About the Collection this Item Comes From Note that this item (and 27 others we are auctioning this week, each in its own auction) was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer in the 1970s and 1980s. During that time, he was approached by an elderly man named Sterling H. Bond, who had collected autographs for many years (starting in the early 1930s), and who sold the dealer his entire collection. Bond had tracked down many important Hollywood celebrities and obtained autographed items (often personalized to him), and he also had autographs from celebrities who were not in the film business (including famous politicians!). The dealer was so impressed with this collection that rather than sell it item by item, he began collecting autographs himself, sending celebrities items by Registered Mail which they then autographed and returned to him! He also purchased a few autographed items from top autograph dealers of the 1970s and 1980s. Now, decades later, the dealer has consigned these autographed items to us. So all of these 28 autographed items we are auctioning were either obtained by long time collector Sterling H. Bond, or were obtained by this memorabilia dealer, and we feel certain that the autograph on this item is authentic! Note that each of the 28 items from this consignor all have this paragraph on them. Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
