Date Sold 6/11/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Autographed Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 141 pages) (Learn More) Southern Yankee (also released in English-speaking countries as "My Hero!"), the 1948 Edward Sedgwick Civil War military romantic comedy ("He's a spy for both sides!"; "Spy with Red Skelton"; "MGM's laugh-packed comedy!"; "From an original story by Melvin Frank and Norman Panama") starring Red Skelton, Brian Donlevy, Arlene Dahl, George Coulouris, Lloyd Gough, John Ireland, and Minor Watson. Note that Buster Keaton worked (uncredited) on this film helping produce a lot of the sight gags! Finally, note that the movie was directed by Edward Sedgwick, who had not worked with Skelton on his previous movies (S. Sylvan Simon had directed most of them). After the movie was mostly completed, Skelton was not happy with the result, and he called in Simon to reshoot many of the scenes. This resulted in an odd situation with the billing for this movie. There is some movie paper that credits Sedgwick as the director, some that credits Simon as the director, and some that originally credited Simon, but has a studio-issued snipe glued over that area changing the director's credit to Sedgwick! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this script (which was Arlene Dahl's personal script, and which was nicely bound in leather with the name of the movie on the spine and the name of the movie and Miss Dahl's name on the cover) has been personally autographed (signed) by TWENTY-FOUR members of the cast and crew (who signed on five of the first interior blank pages). Some wrote long inscriptions to Miss Dahl and quite a few wrote inscriptions of various lengths. Lillian Rader, who was an uncredited hair stylist on this movie (and surely did Miss Dahl's hair) apparently drew a great drawing in pencil of her doing Miss Dahl's hair! The people who signed include: Red Skelton, Brian Donlevy, Dale Deverman (he signed it twice), Ray June, Sergei Petschnikoff, John A. Williams, David Snell, John Banse, Earl McEvoy, Lillian Rader, and there are fourteen other signatures we cannot identify. If anyone knows who else signed this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. So not only is this wonderful for script collectors, because it is certainly a guaranteed original, but it also has all these wonderful guaranteed original autographs within it! Also note that this script is the revised draft from January 13, 1948 (the interior pages are dated either January 13, 1948 or December 9, 1947, and the first interior page says "script dated 1/13/48". Also note that the writers are not credited on this but that the movie credits Harry Tugend. Condition: good to very good. The hardcover binding is slightly separating in the top right corner of the cover and there is much scuffing on the back cover, with a lesser amount of scuffing on the front cover and spine. Some of the interior pages have been folded over in the top right corner, and this was surely done by Miss Dahl herself during filming.
