An Original Vintage Austrian Film Program (measures 6" x 9" [15 x 23 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Der Rebell, the 1932 Curtis Bernhardt, Edwin H. Knopf & Luis Trenker German Napoleonic War thriller (about a young medical student who returns to his Tyrolean home to find out that Napoleon's troops have taken over the area and that his mother and sister have been murdered) starring Luis Trenker, Luise Ullrich, Victor Varconi, Ludwig Stossel, Olga Engl, and Erika Dannhoff. This was a German version of "The Rebel", made by Universal in 1933 (but this was released a year earlier in 1932 by Deutsche Universal-Film). Universal did the same thing with "Dracula" in 1931. They filmed the movie twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, with two entirely different casts, U.S. actors for the English version and mostly Latin actors for the Spanish version, obviously for release in Spanish speaking countries, and the same was done with this movie, except it was released in German and English (the English language version starred Vilma Banky and Luis Trenker). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that star/director Luis Trenker is a fascinating forgotten man in the history of film! He started out helping Arnold Fanck on his mountain movies. He became a filmmaker in the 1930s, making movies about how country life was better than city life, and the Nazis wanted him to make movies for them. He moved to Rome and made two documentaries there. After the war, he was accused of being a Fascist, but the charges were eventually dropped and he started making movies again, but before long, he only made documentaries and writing about mountains, his first love. He died at the age of 97 in 1990! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of four of the pages of this 8-page program (we did this by opening it and laying it flat and photographing the front and back cover together, and two of the interior pages together). You can see the four of the eight pages, and can well determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image, but realize that there are four pages you are not seeing. But of course this means that the front cover appears in the top right of our image, but normally, the program would be folded down the center and you would view the cover by itself (and it will be sent folded as was originally intended). Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
