Magnificent Obsession, the 1935 John M. Stahl rich-playboy-becomes-surgeon-after-accidentally-blinding-a-woman romantic melodrama ("After you see it you will never be quite the same again!"; "After you see it you'll never be the same again!"; "A notable novel -- NOW a great motion picture!"; "From the notable novel by Lloyd C. Douglas") starring Irene Dunne, Robert Taylor, Charles Butterworth, Betty Furness, Sara Hadden, Ralph Morgan, Henry Armetta, Beryl Mercer, Cora Sue Collins, Lucien Littlefield, and Theodore Von Eltz. Note that this movie was remade in 1954 with Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman in the lead roles!

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this first release pressbook! Note that this pressbook was made by Universal Pictures as part of a very unusual experiment! Perhaps because they saw that MGM had switched to pressbooks that had full color covers with the image of the window card on them, universal, stating in late 1934, "outdid them", by making their pressbooks a massive 13" x 26", and they not only had full color covers, but the interiors are printed on quality paper (where as the MGM pressbooks had interiors printed on newsprint.) These oversized Universal pressbooks are some of the nicest ones ever created, but they ended the experiment early in 1936, likely because they were just too expensive! We are currently auctioning five of these in five separate auctions. Note that this is one of a truly remarkable collection of 37 uncut pressbooks we have been consigned and are auctioning in 37 separate auctions! This is absolutely the finest collection of pressbooks we have ever auctioned at one time. Many of these are ones we have either never auctioned before or only once auctioned before, sometimes many years ago. These were collected decades ago, which was the only time that many of these could be found, and after these auctions are over it may be years (or decades!) before some of these are offered again. They ARE that rare! Note that pressbooks from the 1930s can't be found in great condition, and some of them are printed on newsprint, and are hard to find in even lesser condition. We have many images from each pressbook. We have given each an overall grade, and ask that you look at our images to get a good sense of the condition of that pressbook, because, since they have many pages, it would take forever to describe their condition in detail. However, EVERY one of these pressbooks is complete and uncut! Also note that when studios would prepare pressbooks they would often include a sample of the herald. Most often, the herald is no longer still with the pressbook. Sometimes, the herald by itself will sell for almost as much as the rest of the entire pressbook! This pressbook contains the original herald that was included with it, and it is pictured next to the pressbook below. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle at one time. It has some tiny bits of paper loss down the spine, where the covers are separated, and in the top of the front cover. See our many images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this pressbook.
