An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More)

Crimson City, the 1928 Archie Mayo silent Asian white slavery romantic love triangle interracial romantic melodrama ("Based on the story by Anthony Coldeway"; about a beautiful Asian girl who is supposed to be sold to a wealthy elderly Mandarin man, but she falls in love with a handsome young American, but they can't be together because they are of different races, so the Asian girl leaves her lover so he can marry his white girlfriend) starring Myrna Loy, John Miljan, Leila Hyams, Sojin, Matthew Betz, Richard Tucker, and Anna May Wong. Note that interracial romances were quite popular in the 1920s, and were considered "forbidden", so the interracial lovers almost never ended up together (and often, one or both of them died tragically). Also note that American-born Myrna Loy had become typecast in "exotic" (often Asian) roles at this time, and the producers of the movie felt she would be more acceptable in this part to audiences than the actual Asian Anna May Wong, who certainly would have been much more suitible for this part, and actually appeared in the movie in a minor role!

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards.

Condition: very good. The poster had pinholes in the corners and a 5" tear near the middle of the left border, extending through the middle of the face of the Asian man, and ending in the background to the left of Loy's head. There were a few scuffs and smudges scattered in the image and a pinhole near the center of the poster, in the background area. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, but you can see slight signs of the restoration of the tear at middle left.
