Date Sold 6/2/2019 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 20 Daily Variety full-page trade ads (all from the January 3, 1951 issue). Daily Variety, the entertainment industry newspaper published in Los Angeles, California. It was first published as a weekly newspaper in 1905, but in 1933, it became a daily (no doubt because of the competition from The Hollywood Reporter, which had started in 1930). For many years, Daily Variety was the leading trade paper in the movie industry (The Hollywood Reporter finally overtook it in 2007. Amazingly, ever since 1933, it was published 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year!) Note that once a year, this film industry standard did a special "anniversary issue" that was hundreds of pages long. Everybody who was anybody in the business was compelled to take out an ad, and your standing in the industry was judged by how big an ad you took out! Note that because this was a daily paper, the vast majority of people threw it away, just as they did all daily newspapers. Finding any issues of this from decades ago is incredibly difficult, and finding a specific issue is like finding a needle in a haystack, because it seems that nobody saved them! Note that the items in this lot are from 1951. All of the pages are in a bag and board, and we left them in the bags and photographed them that way (see our images). Measurements: 11" x 16"Condition: good. The pages were removed from magazines.
