It opened in 1826, and was completed in 1828. It was enlarged and improved many times, and was at one time one of the most modern prisons! Sing Sing is the home of the legendary 'Old Sparky' electric chair, and has housed several infamous prisoners, including Willie Sutton and David Berkowitz (better known as the "Son of Sam")!
