An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

The Sunset Derby, the 1927 Albert S. Rogell silent romantic horse racing sports gambling thriller ("Adapted from the Story by William Dudley Pelley"; about a jockey who loses his nerve, but thanks to his faithful girlfriend who believes in him, he wins the big race) starring Mary Astor, William Collier Jr., Ralph Lewis, David Kirby, and Lionel Belmore. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards.

Condition: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had never been folded. It had water stains in the top blank border, and down portions of the entire right blank border, very slightly extending into the edge of the image in a couple of places. There was a 1" tear in the lower right blank border and diagonal paper loss in the bottom right corner, just extending into the tip of the blue background area. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The person who restored the poster first completely cleaned it, which removed a considerable amount of the smudges and stains. At that point, the decision was made to do further restoration in the blank borders only, because in order to make the image look "perfect", there would have been the need for lots of paint, which would have given the poster a "heavily restored" look, and the faint remaining scattered tiny stains are definitely not very distracting, and in addition, they help establish that this is a genuine 83 year-old original poster! I really think the poster probably has survived in much better than could have been expected condition, and it truly does not have very much restoration, and it will display great on anyone's wall!
