An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 13" x 26" [33 x 66 cm]; 12 pages). Also included is an ad supplement that has 2 pages. (Learn More) The Good Fairy, the classic 1935 William Wyler romantic love triangle comedy ("Screenplay by Preston Sturges"; based on a French play by Ferenc Molnar, but that play was too racy for 1935 U.S. audiences, and Preston Sturges did a brilliant job of adapting it, changing Sullavan's character from a libertine to an adorable waif who grew up sheltered in an orphanage, and after she meets a rich man who will do anything to help her, she decides to pretend to have a husband, and she picks out a man at random, so she can act as a "good fairy" to him!) starring Margaret Sullavan, Herbert Marshall, Frank Morgan, Reginald Owen, Alan Hale Sr., Eric Blore, June Clayworth, and Beulah Bondi NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this pressbook was made by Universal Pictures as part of a very unusual experiment! Perhaps because they saw that MGM had switched to pressbooks that had full color covers with the image of the window card on them, universal, stating in late 1934, "outdid them", by making their pressbooks a massive 13" x 26", and they not only had full color covers, but the interiors are printed on quality paper (where as the MGM pressbooks had interiors printed on newsprint.) These oversized Universal pressbooks are some of the nicest ones ever created, but they ended the experiment early in 1936, likely because they were just too expensive! We are currently auctioning five of these in five separate auctions. Note that this is one of a truly remarkable collection of 37 uncut pressbooks we have been consigned and are auctioning in 37 separate auctions! This is absolutely the finest collection of pressbooks we have ever auctioned at one time. Many of these are ones we have either never auctioned before or only once auctioned before, sometimes many years ago. These were collected decades ago, which was the only time that many of these could be found, and after these auctions are over it may be years (or decades!) before some of these are offered again. They ARE that rare! Note that pressbooks from the 1930s can't be found in great condition, and some of them are printed on newsprint, and are hard to find in even lesser condition. We have many images from each pressbook. We have given each an overall grade, and ask that you look at our images to get a good sense of the condition of that pressbook, because, since they have many pages, it would take forever to describe their condition in detail. However, EVERY one of these pressbooks is complete and uncut! Note also that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut, but it had a "tipped-in" herald at one time that is no longer present (one could find a herald and put it back in, if one desired). It was folded across the middle at one time. It has some tiny bits of paper loss around the edges of both covers with paper loss in the center of the front cover. See our many images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this pressbook. Learn More about condition grades
