An Original Vintage Theatrical Local Theater Movie Herald (measures 5" x 7" when folded; 4 pages) (Learn More)

a local theater herald for the Temple Theater in Pulaski, New York, advertising the complete program for December 29-January 9, comprising of the following movies: Rendezvous, the 1935 William K. Howard & Sam Wood romantic comedy starring William Powell, Rosalind Russell (very young in this role!), Binnie Barnes, Lionel Atwill, and Cesar Romero AND Gallant Defender, the 1935 David Selman cowboy western starring Charles Starrett, Joan Perry, Harry Woods, Edward LeSaint, and Roy Rogers in a bit part as part of the Sons of the Pioneers. Note that Joan Perry had been a former model who was discovered by Columbia head Harry Cohn. He put her in a bunch of movies, and then married her, and in 1941, she retired. AND In Old Kentucky, the 1935 George Marshall horse racing sports gambling country western comedy ("Play by Charles T. Dazey") starring Will Rogers, Dorothy Wilson, Russell Hardie, Charles Sellon, Louise Henry, Alan Dinehart, and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson (one of the first black African American actors to achieve success in mainstream sound movies) AND A Night at the Opera, the classic 1935 Sam Wood screwball musical opera romantic comedy starring the Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx as Otis B. Driftwood, Chico Marx as Fiorello, and Harpo Marx as Tomasso), Kitty Carlisle (as Rosa Castaldi; this was her best movie role, but she is far better remembered for being a long time panelist on TV's game show "To Tell the Truth"), Allan Jones (as Ricardo Baroni), Walter King (as Rodolfo Lassparri), Sig Ruman (as Herbert Gottlieb), and Margaret Dumont (as Mrs. Claypool). Note that MGM added a romantic plot to the Marx Bros. typical screwball comedy, and it really adds to the movie, as Carlisle and Jones have real chemistry together, and their songs are excellent. Of course, this is also the movie that has the Marx Bros.' most famous comedy scene, the "stateroom" scene, plus the great scene of Groucho and Chico attempting to sign a contract! AND Stars Over Broadway, the 1935 William Keighley New York City stage acting radio singing romantic musical ("Numbers Staged & Directed by Busby Berekely"; "Music & Lyrics by Harry Warren & Al Dubin"; about a down-and-out promoter who meets a porter in a hotel who has a great singing voice, and he steers him away from opera to make fast money, and he becomes a major radio star, but then he starts hitting the bottle which causes his career to fall apart, but the promoter helps straighten him out in the end) starring Pat O'Brien, Jane Froman (she was an excellent singer who was quite pretty, and she seemed to have a bright future in movies and radio, but she was severely injured on a USO flight in 1943, after having appeared in just four movies, and she retired from movies, living until 1980; a biography of her life, "With a Song in My Heart", was made starring Susan Hayward), Jean Muir, James Melton (he was an opera star with a wonderful tenor voice, and he appeared in just a couple of movies, and his acting was not the equal of his singing, so he returned to opera), Frank McHugh, and Phil Regan
