Date Sold 6/21/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Unfolded Political Campaign Poster (measures 14" x 22 1/4" [36 x 57 cm]) (Learn More) George McGovern was a liberal politician in South Dakota from 1957 to 1977. He was a U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator, and the Democratic Party presidential nominee in the 1972 presidential election. Note that McGovern was beaten by Richard Nixon in a landslide victory, partially because Nixon had McGovern's campaign headquarters bugged, which led to the entire Watergate scandal, and caused Nixon to resign as President. McCovern passed away in 2012 at the age of 90. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is printed on a light window card-like stock, and it is guaranteed authentic from when the poster was first created in 1972 (it is dated at the bottom, where it says "Paid for McGovern/Shriver '72"). Also note that this is one of a remarkable group of 13 guaranteed authentic 1940s to 1970s political posters (with a couple of war posters included as well) that we were just consigned! They were acquired by an archive right when they were created, and they have been in storage ever since, until now. These are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these 15 posters! Condition: good to very good. There are light smudges scattered throughout the poster (see our image).
