Bull moody iconic beret sitting at MGM! Date Sold 2/20/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Camera Original Vintage Photographic Negative (measures 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Greta Garbo was a legendary romantic Swedish actress from the 1924 to 1941 (she retired at the age of 35, still extremely popular, and lived in seclusion for many decades afterwards, living by her trademark expression, "I want to be alone"). Almost all other major leading ladies of the mid 1920s had their careers diminished or ruined by the coming of sound, but not Garbo, all the more remarkable because she was not native English-speaking and she had a strong accent. She first rose to prominence in a movie in her native Sweden, and then attracted the interest of Hollywood, but she would only sign a contract if they would sign her director as well, and MGM agreed! Some of her movies include: Ninotchka (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Queen Christina, Grand Hotel, Anna Christie (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Romance (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and Camille (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film). Garbo passed away in 1990 at the age of 84. Important Added Info: Famous sitting by C.S. BULL of Greta Garbo wearing her signature beret. Poses from this session have often brought high prices and are quite desirable. Focus of the image is on the hat with the softer focus area on and around her face. India ink numbering on front and studio retouching on the emulsion side. This was the actual negative inside the camera taken by the photographer at the time and as such is a one-of-a-kind collectible! Note that this is a negative that was in the camera when the photographer shot the photo (see below for more on this). We have put a scan of the negative that shows the "positive image" (in addition to a scan of the negative image). REMEMBER THAT WHAT YOU RECEIVE WILL BE A PHOTOGRAPHIC NEGATIVE, NOT A POSITIVE IMAGE LIKE YOU ARE SEEING. However, we will provide the winning bidder of this auction that positive image scan that is both high quality and not watermarked (on request to the winning bidder, and only the winning bidder). We scanned it, so that bidders could see just how high quality it is. What are camera original negatives? These often (but not always) have retouching on the emulsion side, and negative numbers written in India ink on the front. Depending on the studio some 8x10 negatives may be trimmed or have numbers or information embedded into the sides of the negative. Obviously, camera original negatives are far more rare (and far more desirable) than studio-issued ones, but both are very high quality. Condition: very good. Used condition with minor flaws from age and general use. Dust, light scratches and other slight flaws may be present that could easily be cleaned before printing or retouched after scanning - see large images for how great this looks!
