The man in black is waiting..."; "It's the second motion picture of its kind! It won't be the last!"; "The man with no name is back! The man in black is waiting... A walking arsenal - he uncoils, strikes and kills!") starring Clint Eastwood (as Monco), Lee Van Cleef (as Col. Mortimer), Gian Maria Volonte, Mara Krupp (billed as "Mara Krup"), Luigi Pistilli, Klaus Kinski (as Juan Wild, the Hunchback), Joseph Egger (billed as "Josef Egger"), Panos Papadopulos, Benito Steffanelli, Roberto Camardiel, Aldo Sambrell, Luis Rodriguez, and Mario Brega. Note that this movie was released in December of 1965 (no doubt to qualify for awards), but most of the Italian posters from the first release are dated 1966. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned three examples of this Italian photobusta, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially Italian movie, but the last one was 24 years ago, when it sold for $2,990! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had an extra vertical fold at a slight diagonal to the regular one, 1" to the right. It had many creases and scuffs down those vertical folds, with fine surface paper loss on the middle horizontal fold and the left half of the bottom horizontal fold. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was linenbacked many years ago, and the restorer did a nice job at that time. However, the poster was displayed, likely for many years, and that caused the poster to fade, and it also made the restoration paint much more noticeable. If I owned this great poster, I would surely have it removed from the old linen and properly re-backed, and afterwards, it will display wonderfully, but bear in mind its defects and the cost of restoration before bidding. Note that the restorer left a tiny bit of excess linen around all four sides of the poster (they left a small border in order to protect the poster from handling damage, but they did not leave a larger border, to allow it to more easily fit in a frame).
