An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Dixie Dugan, the 1943 Otto Brower World War II (WWII) Home Front government secretary romantic love triangle comedy ("She's fun in the funnies! She's a scream on the screen!"; based on the newspaper comic strip by Joseph P. McEvoy; about a girl who gets a job as a secretary to a government official, and both he and her fiancee think that women have no place in the workplace, but she proves them both wrong) starring James Ellison, Charlotte Greenwood, Charles Ruggles (billed as "Charlie Ruggles"), Lois Andrews (in the title role; billed as "Introducing Lois Andrews as 'Dixie'"), and Helene Reynolds. Note that this film was the first film in what was to be a series of films based on this comic strip character but the film flopped at the box office so the series was scrapped! Note that "Dixie Dugan" is forgotten today, but it was a very popular comic strip that started in 1929. She originally was a showgirl, modeled on Louise Brooks, but after the Stock Market Crash, she became a regular working girl (no, not THAT kind!), who had a series of jobs to support herself, and single women everywhere identified with her. The strip ran until 1966, when women's liberation did her in! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. We are doing something in this set of auctions we rarely do! A couple of years ago, we were approached by a very long time collector, and he asked us if he could give us an entire auction of single lobby cards by himself. We agreed, and held that auction in 2017, and later that same year, a different collector sent us a different group of 999 lobby cards and we repeated the process. Now we have a third such "single owner" collection. This one was originally assembled in Australia, which is why some of the cards have either Australian paper snipes attached or Australian ratings stamps (but many do not have them). This collection originally contained 1,100 cards, and we auctioned 100 of them in our March Major Auction, and now we are auctioning the remaining 999 in THIS set of auctions, and after this auction, there will be no more cards to be offered. As will immediately be evident when you look at the cards, many of them are from titles where you almost never see any lobby cards, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire many cards that almost never are offered for sale or at auction! Condition: good to very good. The card was used in Australia and there is an Australian rating stamp in one corner. There are pinholes in the corners with faint tape stains on the back. Otherwise, the card is in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
