An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 42") (Learn More) Mutt and Jeff in Havana, the 1910s silent stage play comedy ("The Big Laughing Success Bud Fisher's Original Comedy Cartoon"; "ALL NEW"; based on the Bud Fisher comic strip). It is possible that this is actually from a cartoon, but we think it is more likely that it is a stage play that was based on Fisher's cartoon. If anyone knows more about this poster, or whether this was a stage play, a cartoon, or a live action movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that Mutt and Jeff (a pair of loser best friends, one tall and one short) was one of the most poular newspaper cartoon strips ever, beginning in 1908, and they were brought to the movies in 1911, and over the next 15 years, Bud Fisher created an astonishing 347 cartoons starring the duo. Note that Bud Fisher was one of the rare successful creators who was also an excellent business man, and he gained control of the newspaper strip, and when the first cartoons were adapted in 1911, he retained sole ownership of those as well, and his various enterprises made him an extremely wealthy man! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had an uneven 15" tear in the top center, but otherwise had pretty minor fold and border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and any restorer could easily touch them up without re-backing the poster).
