An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Zaza, the 1923 Allan Dwan silent romantic love triangle theater stage acting melodrama (about a beautiful actress who meets a traveling diplomat and she has an affair with him, but he is married and returns to his wife, but many years later, they reunite and his wife has passed away, so they can be together) starring Gloria Swanson (in the title role as Zaza), H.B. Warner, Ferdinand Gottschalk, Lucille La Verne, and Mary Thurman. Note that leading lady Mary Thurman had been a school teacher who became a Mack Sennett Bathing Beauty whose career started to take off, but sadly, she caught pneumonia in 1925, at age 30, and passed away.

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three scene cards from this movie, in all our years of auctioning (one was the same scene as this one, but it was a different example of the card), and one of those three cards has now been reconsigned to us.

Note that the vast majority of collectors would assume that this is a title card, but it is not! In the mid to late 1920s, Paramount made many sets of lobby cards where the seven scene cards all LOOK like title cards, but the actual title card is different from the seven scene cards (not too long after this, Paramount abandoned title cards altogether for the most part for the next forty-odd years, instead using a posed portrait of the stars in place of a title card). This scene card is from one of those sets where the scene cards are commonly mistaken for title cards. Please do not bid on it thinking it is a title card, as it is a scene card!
Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: very good. There is masking tape on the back of each right corner, but it was not put there for a restoration purpose. There is a pair of staple holes in the top and bottom of the left blank border. There is a tiny area of surface paper loss on the back of the top left corner, where tape was roughly removed. Other than the above, the card is in pretty nice condition!
