An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) It's Love I'm After, the 1937 Archie Mayo stage acting romantic love triangle comedy ("...The season's outstanding laugh treat... sparkling with gay romance!"; "Original Story by Maurice Hanline"; a wacky story of a famous stage acting couple, who have almost married eleven times, and the man plays dashing roles on stage, which results in women falling in love with the characters he portrays, and he needs to brush off an infatuated would-be lover, but everything works out in the end!) starring Leslie Howard, Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Patric Knowles, Eric Blore, and George Barbier NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release posters from this 1937 movie are extremely rare. We have only previously auctioned two one-sheets and no other posters. And the one-sheet was created during the time when Warner Bros. was economizing on their posters, and it is not full color, but this style B half-sheet has a great full-color image of the three stars! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was backed onto a fairly stiff heavyweight paper backing, we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package rather than attempting to roll it in a tube, so bear that extra expense in mind before placing a bid on this poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny tears and some paper loss on both folds. It had vertical tears in the left and right of the horizontal fold, extending into the chins of all three stars and into Howard and De Havilland's mouths. There was a tear running down the right of De Havilland's face, going through her eye, and a small tear in the right of her forehead. There were some tears and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to paperbacking. A really talented restorer did great restoration to the poster, given its many defects, and it will display really well from any reasonable viewing distance, but you can see slight signs of the restoration and one needs to bear that in mind and the extensive restoration before placing a bid on this poster.
