An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Dawn, the 1928 Herbert Wilcox English silent World War I (WWI) medical nurse rescue melodrama (based on the story by Reginald Berkeley; about Edith Cavell, who was a British nurse who served with the underground in Belgium during the First World War, and helped hundreds of British soldiers escape before she was caught and executed by the Germans) starring Sybil Thorndike ("as 'Nurse Cavell'"; as Edith Cavell), Marie Ault, Mary Brough, Ada Bodart, Gordon Craig, and Mickey Brantford. Note that this was a VERY inspiring and popular movie idea, because it was first made into a movie called "Nurse and Martyr" in 1915 shortly after it happened. Then came 1918's "The Cavell Case", and then this movie, followed by a 1939 version called "Nurse Edith Cavell" starring Anna Neagle. Important Added Info: Note that in our last set of auctions that include multiple stills from single titles, we had 72 sets of stills that came from a wonderful group of just-discovered stills that are from 1927 to 1929, with the majority from 1928 exactly. Now, we are auctioning the remaining stills from this wonderful group, 131, all in separate auctions. In addition to them including a LOT of previously unseen stills (and sometimes from incredibly rare titles!), most of these stills have either snipes on the bottom or back, and many have some pencil writing on the back about the movie or actors. After these stills are auctioned, there will be no more stills from this wonderful collection! Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
